Does anyone else remember Clarissa Explains it All, one of the best tv shows on Nickelodeon in the '90s? For some reason the other day, I remembered how rad I used to think Clarissa was, and I started watching some episodes on the internet. Now that I'm watching it again, I've realized that Clarissa (Melissa Joan Hart) was such a bad ass role model for the prenubile braces wearing tomb boy Emily. She was just so spunky and unique. Foooor example, she wanted to be a journalist, she had killer fashion sense (see pictures below), a diy checkered wall in her room that she made by coloring over wallpaper, her favorite band is They Might be Giants, she demonstrated all of her schemes by programming a computer game with her as the character, and I think in one season she had a small pet alligator type animal.
The great thing about Clarissa Explains it All was that she dealt with the same issues as.. say, the kids from 7th heaven and Full House, but it wasn't an emotional show (nor was there any sappy music during the moral of the episode). It's also one of the few shows that had a completely platonic friendship between a boy and a girl.
Clarissa Darling will always be one of my inspirations.

Glamour magazine celebrated it's 70th anniversary with this female American Icons spread. Below are some (most, really) of the pictures I liked the best.
Alexis Bledel as Rose the Riveter. I wish Alexis Bledel were more ubiquitous. I'm glad she's involved in this shoot.
Hayden Panattiere as Amelia Earhart. Even though she bugs me, I think Hayden's picture is my favorite. I have a soft spot for Amelia Earhart; I was her for Halloween this year.
Emma Roberts as Audrey Hepburn. I would wear the crap out of that coat. gives me chills.
Camilla Belle as Mary Tyler Moore.
Emma Stone as Carrie Bradshaw. I just posted this one to ask why Carrie Bradshaw is on this list... weird, she doesn't really seem to be on the same level as the others.
Alecia Cuthbert as Brandy Chastain- I remember all of the hulabaloo about this!
Paula Patton as Billie Holliday. I have no idea who Paula Patton is, but that's one hell of a sexy picture.

You must have a good sense of humor

The picture from yesterday reminded me that I'd forgotten to post pictures of my new glasses. I desperately needed some new ones; I'd had the same pair for 4 or 5 years and my perscription really wasn't the same any more. I ended up getting two pair for the price of one! When the sales manager was fitting them on my face he was all, "You must have a good sense of humor." I generally take that as a comment as I think I'm the funniest girl alive, but was he suggesting that I'm goofy looking? Guffaw! I'll show him who is and who isn't goofy looking. Although, he did offer me a job afterward. I guess he digs goofy.
Skype me, later
There is not one place in my apartment that gets enough reception to hold a telephone conversation; I'm getting really tired of having to go outside onto the stairs next to my apartment to have a full-length phone sex chat. I am now looking into getting Skype. Anyone who has used Skype, let me know how you like it. My only concern is my shoddy internet connection-in a moment of weakness I thought Airimba would be a good idea. Jesus, that was stupid.
